LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A fight over control in Jefferson County Public Schools hit the Kentucky Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Justices heard oral arguments on Senate Bill 1. Republicans passed the measure, which strips some of the say from the Jefferson County Board of Education.
The law gives more authority to the superintendent on issues like purchasing, and requires a two-thirds vote to overrule any action of the district's superintendent.Â
The legislation did not specifically mention Jefferson County, but the way it's written, JCPS is the only district it would apply to.
The state court of appeals ruled that is unconstitutional.
The state attorney general's office is fighting for the legislation. It claims JCPS' filing was flawed because the superintendent is not named as a party in it.Â
The high court will rule at a later date.
