LOUISVILLE, Ky.  (WDRB) — Kentucky State University would undergo major structural and financial changes under legislation approved by state lawmakers Wednesday, with the bill now heading to the governor for final consideration.

Senate Bill 185 would expand the Council on Postsecondary Education’s review of university finances and require regular reporting during a five-year oversight period.

The measure also updates enrollment policies, adjusts debt collection procedures and directs the university to align academic programs with workforce needs while maintaining its liberal arts offerings.

Lawmakers said the goal is to strengthen the university’s operations and improve long-term stability.

The bill now heads to the governor for final consideration.
