LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Hundreds of schools across America were named National Blue Ribbon Schools on Monday, including one in Louisville and one in southern Indiana.
In Louisville, St. Albert the Great was given the prestigious recognition, a highlight of the school's excellence in academic performance and significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups.
A National Blue Ribbon School award flag will now be displayed in the school's entryway.
Other schools around Kentucky that were recognized include:
- Corbin Middle School (Corbin Independent)
- Cold Hill Elementary School (Laurel County)
- Lone Oak Elementary School (McCracken County)
- Northern Elementary School (Pulaski County)
- Shirley Mann Elementary School (Boone County)
- Holy Cross District High School (Diocese of Covington)
In southern Indiana, St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic School in Floyd Knobs received the recognition. Leaders said Monday the school was qualified to apply for the recognition because their standardized test scores are in the top 15% or above. Officials touted St. Mary's "outstanding spiritual, academic and extracurricular programs with unique characteristics that set the school apart."
The other 15 Indiana schools are:
- Barr-Reeve Middle/High School (Bar-Reeve Community Schools Inc.)
- Heritage Christian School (Heritage Christian Schools District)
- Ladoga Elementary School (South Montgomery Community School Corporation)
- Meadowview Elementary School (Westview School Corporation)
- Oak Hill Elementary School (Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation)
- Paramount Cottage Home (Paramount Schools of Excellence)
- Pine Village Elementary School (MSD Warren County)
- Porter Lakes Elementary School (Porter Township School Corporation)
- Roncalli High School (Archdiocese of Indianapolis)
- St. Wendel Catholic School (Diocese of Evansville)
- St. Francis & Clare of Assisi (Archdiocese of Indianapolis)
- St. Pius X (Archdiocese of Indianapolis)
- St. Theodore Guerin (Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana)
- St. Thomas More School (Diocese of Gary)
- West Lafayette Elementary School (West Lafayette Community School Corporation)
National Blue Ribbon Schools are recognized symbols of exemplary teaching and learning. The education department recognizes all schools in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores, subgroup student scores and graduation rates:
- Exemplary High-Performing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
- Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school’s student groups and all students.
