LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Parents with students in Jefferson County Public Schools can apply to be on the screening committee for the school district's next superintendent.

The search for a new leader for the district comes as current Superintendent Marty Pollio prepares to retire at the end of this school year.

The Jefferson County Board of Education appoints a superintendent after receiving recommendations from a screening committee. The screening committee is established within 30 days of a determination by a board education that a vacancy has occurred or will occur, pursuant to Kentucky Revised Statute 160.352.

The screening committee includes two teachers, who are elected by teachers in the district, a board of education member appointed by the board chair, a principal elected by principals in the school district, a parent elected by the presidents of the parent-teacher organizations and one classified employee, who is elected by the classified employees in the school district.

The screening committee is responsible for screening all candidates, utilize any reasonable means to screen candidates, report recommendations to the board and consider additional responsibilities as assigned by the board.

To be considered a parent eligible for the screening committee, a person must be a parent or legal guardian of a student enrolled in JCPS. To read about procedures for the parent to be selected, click here.
