LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A southern Indiana teacher is the recipient a prestigious award for her dedication as an educator.
Jaime Lamkin, math and science teacher at Clarksville Middle School, was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).
Awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. government to k-12 teachers in math and science. The award is given to the nation's most outstanding STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) teachers from each state who are preparing the next generation.
Lamkin said in a news release she is "honored and humbled" to have been awarded.
“My students from the year I was nominated for the award are equally as deserving of this award since the video of me teaching, and the student data that accompanied it was one part of the process that helped to solidify my win," Lamkin said.
Lamkin, a teacher at Clarksville Middle School for 25 years, is known for her bubbly personality and going above a beyond to help her students succeed. Clarksville Middle School Principal Dr. Nikki Bullington said Lamkin is dedicated and inspirational.
“To inspire young minds and ignite a passion for learning is the mark of a truly exceptional leader,” Bullington said in a news release. “Jaime not only mastered this art, but elevated it, creating a legacy of empowered, motivated students."
Lamkin will receive a certificate signed by President Joe Biden, $10,000 from NSF and an invitation to a future awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
