LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The twin brother of a Louisville Metro Police officer who was shot and severely wounded in the line of duty has shared an update about his brother's progress.

Monday, Zack Wilt, twin brother of Nick Wilt—who was shot in the head while responding to the mass shooting at Old National Bank in April 2023—posted an update on his brother's condition Monday afternoon.

The post said that Nick continues to recover and, although his progress is slow, he remains dedicated.

"Nick has come a long way, but he will continue to heal for the rest of his life," Zack Wilt said in the post.

Since early 2024, Nick has walked independently with the assistance of a cane, but since September, he has rarely needed it.

"It's a huge milestone for him to be walking at all," Zack said in his post.

Nick enjoys monitoring his daily steps on his smart watch, often walking more than his brother.

The post also said Nick deals with seizures, nerve damage and intense headaches that occur almost daily. He also requires daily assistance with activities and other tasks. As Nick continues to make cognitive improvement, Zack added that his brother's sense of humor may be better than before his injury. Nick does still need some help making decisions and holding conversations.

"All things considered, Nick is a walking miracle and continues to love life and everyone," the post said.

Nick is eager to continue to heal so he can living back in his own house and continuing his life. He still surprises doctors and therapists every session.
