LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Play was halted just before 10 a.m. Tuesday during practice rounds at the PGA Championship, forcing fans to evacuate Valhalla Golf Club in advance of a line of storms moving through Louisville.

Play resumed less than an hour later, but many folks had their umbrellas in hand. The rain persisted much of the day, the kind of pesky mist that is tolerable but less than ideal.

For Jason and Stephanie Lutz, Tuesday was very much a game of cat and mouse after it poured like cats and dogs. They were in the shuttle to Valhalla when it was announced play had been suspended and arriving fans had to turn around.

"We get back to the Expo, like a 20-minute ride and 'OK, everyone back on the bus. It’s reopened,’" Jason Lutz said. "So we get back on the bus (and) come back over. It was a roller coaster today."

Many players were on the course or practice area when the horn blew halting play, including Tiger Woods, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas and Scottie Scheffler. Buses bringing fans to Valhalla from the Kentucky Exposition Center were held as of 10 a.m., and fans on site at Valhalla began boarding buses back to their cars at the Expo Center.

With the dangerous weather out of the way, fans wasted no time showing up. They weren't going to miss a chance to see the sports favorites they’ve been following for years.

"For sure (a bucket list item)," Robbie Koenigstein said. "This is awesome."

Most of the fans we talked to had their eyes on Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1-ranked player in the world. Many were ready for a photo or a chance to say hello, a dream that came true, making the whole day worth it and the rain worth it.

"We play golf tournaments as a couple, so we live the experience and try to get autographs and just the whole thing," Jason Lutz said. "It’s a lot of fun."
