LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A female died after a fire broke out at an apartment in Louisville's Algonquin neighborhood on Saturday morning.
Louisville Fire Capt. Donovan Sims said in a statement that crews responded to a reported structure fire in the 1600 block of S. 11th Street at 7:40 a.m.
According to Sims, there was light smoke showing from the first floor of an apartment in an occupied building.
Firefighters got inside the apartment and found a female inside. She received medical attention and was taken to a local hospital where she died.
The age of the victim is unknown at this time.
It took 25 firefighters just over 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. The fire was confined to the apartment and smoke detectors were present.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Louisville Arson Bureau.
