LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Two people were taken to the hospital Saturday morning after a fire broke out at a senior living facility in Middletown.

According to Anchorage-Middletown Fire & EMS spokesperson Salvador Melendez, crews responded to a fire at StoryPoint Senior Living in the 500 block of Meridian Hills Drive around 9:30 a.m.

Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from a second-floor room, which activated the building’s sprinkler system.

Officials said the fire was contained to the room of origin, but eight units became uninhabitable because of water damage caused by the sprinkler system.

Two people were taken to the hospital, one for smoke inhalation and another for a medical emergency.

Officials said all 130 residents were safely evacuated. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
