LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Just before midnight, Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS responded to a house fire on Harkaway Avenue.
Crews arrived within five minutes and found heavy smoke coming from the front and side of the home.
Firefighters went inside for an initial attack but quickly encountered intense flames throughout the structure. As conditions worsened, they were forced to pull back and fight the fire from outside.
Frigid temperatures and ice made the scene difficult, but crews were able to keep the flames contained to the home, which suffered extensive damage.
The lone occupant escaped safely after discovering the fire and calling 911. Firefighters eventually brought the blaze under control.
