NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) — Firefighters responded to a fire overnight at the New Albany Golf Course in southern Indiana.
The fire happened at the golf course on Gray Brook Lane, near Grant Line Road. According to the New Albany Fire Department, crews were called to the scene just before 11 p.m. Sunday, and several fire trucks remained at the property as of about 4:30 a.m. Monday.
Once on scene, fire officials said crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the former New Albany Country Club building.
Officials said extra crews were called to the scene "due to the amount of smoke and flames coming from the building." Firefighters attempted an "interior attack," but were forced to exit the building because of "extremely high temperatures and zero visibility."
It took crews about two hours to bring the fire under control. Officials said one firefighter received a minor injury and was treated at the scene.
The NAFD said the state fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire. Officials did not provide information about the extent of the fire. Visible scorch marks could be seen on parts of the building. Photos shared by the fire department Monday morning show the building engulfed in flames and heavy damage to the structure.
The fire came as strong storms moved through the area overnight, bringing lightning and heavy rain to parts of southern Indiana and the Louisville metro area.
No injuries have been reported. The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
