LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Bullitt County congregation celebrated Easter in a new building after flooding nearly destroyed its church.
"To be able to gather together and to celebrate," pastor Jeremy Willis said. "It has been a hard time but it has also been cool to see everybody come together and be able to celebrate what this day means for all of us."
Journey Church in Shepherdsville was hit hard with recent flooding. Sunday, the church held Easter service at Bullitt Central High School.
The church had extensive damage to offices, the kids area and its lobby. Several contractors have donated their time to help with repairs and the community is doing what it can to help out.
"Once the waters started to reside it was just all hands on deck," church member John Dauenhauer said. "Everybody showed up. Everybody was calling, texting what can I do? What can I donate. Lowe's and a lot of the other big companies in the city were donating and they were just there to help."
The church will use the high school for at least the next few weeks and hopes to be back to their restored building by Mother's Day.
