LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Jefferson County saw a record number of ballots cast during early voting for the primary.
Jefferson County Clerk David Yates said in a release over the course of the three-day in-person early voting period and including absentee voting, more than 23,000 people cast their ballots, a 4% turnout.
“Jefferson County voters showed up in record numbers for early primary voting, and I’m incredibly proud of the enthusiasm we’re seeing,” Yates said. “Our team worked hard to expand access with 24 early‑voting sites, and the community responded.”
Early voting was Thursday through Saturday offered at 24 locations, the largest number in the county's history, the clerk's office said.
If you didn't vote during early voting, you still have a chance to cast your ballot on Tuesday, May 19 during the primary. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and anyone in line by 6 p.m. can vote. To find your polling location, click here.
When voting in person, Kentucky voters are required to show I.D. that includes their name and picture.
Jefferson County has about 600,000 registered voters.
