JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. (WDRB) -- A piece of metal weighing several pounds smashed through a car windshield Monday morning, sending an 18-year-old to the hospital with cuts from the glass.
It happened around Billtown Road in Jeffersontown. Shannon Sheehan and his son were driving through a construction zone on Billtown Road outside the Silver Oaks subdivision around 10:30 a.m. Monday when the object struck their vehicle.

“Then just out of the blue — BOOM,” Sheehan said. “This was not just an average somebody just throwing it off a bridge or falling off the back of a truck. This was a heck of an impact.”
Sheehan said his son had to go to the hospital to get glass fragments removed.
Photos of the vehicle show shattered glass and a huge hole left behind. Sheehan said he doesn't know what the object was, but believes it came flying through the air.
However, FlightAware data showed that no planes were taking off or landing at Louisville-area airports at the time, and the Federal Aviation Administration told WDRB the part does not appear to be from an aircraft.
"Something came through the sky," Sheehan said. "It happened so fast and it sounded like a bomb hit my car and it was like glass and debris went flying everywhere."
The area has been under construction for several months, leading Sheehan to suspect the object may have been kicked up by another vehicle.
“By the grace of God I am alive to talk about it. This was serious,” Sheehan said. “There's some serious explaining to do about where this metal object came from.”
Jeffersontown police said the FAA ruled out the metal being from a plane. They haven't found the source yet, but say there is a lot of construction going on in the area where it happened.
“I want to know what happened — how it got here. That is what I want to know to prevent it from possibly happening again,” Sheehan said.
