Jesus and a Job program gives ex-felons jobs renovating homes in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A local program is integrating ex-felons back into the community by giving them jobs, supplying them with the tools to get back on their feet.

The Jesus and a Job program employs ex-felons to renovate abandoned houses in Louisville.

Program participants even have the opportunity to live in the homes once they're finished.

The group showed off one of the newly-renovated houses Saturday.

Program coordinators say they believe this is the best way to reduce the city's crime and violence.

"There's so much talk about ... what we should do, could do, and outta do, but this is a real program where men can put their hands to work and feel like men, take care of their family and have a decent home to live in," said Jerald Muhammad with Brothers Helping Brothers.

Organizers also say the Jesus and a Job program has hundreds of participants.
