LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A quiet morning in a McCreary County deer stand turned into a once-in-a-lifetime surprise for a Kentucky hunter.

The man was passing the time on his phone when he opened the Kentucky Lottery’s Wolf Ridge Jackpots game. With relatives recently winning money online, he figured he’d take a chance.

Family members kept calling, freezing his phone — until one declined call was followed by the sound of a big win.

He looked down and saw the jackpot.

Unsure whether he was imagining it, he called his wife. She assumed he was phoning about a deer, not a million-dollars. Once he sent a picture, the shock hit them both.

The couple made the trip to Louisville to collect their prize of $794,500.22 after taxes. They plan to pay off bills, buy property and put money aside for their family.

“One minute I’m sitting in the woods, the next I’m a millionaire,” he said in a news release.
