LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Unemployment is rising across much of Kentucky, according to new data from the Kentucky Center for Statistics, showing a patchwork recovery that varies widely from county to county.
The latest figures, comparing May of last year to May of this year, show jobless rates increased in 95 counties statewide. Only 17 counties saw declines, while eight remained unchanged.
The report also highlights significant differences in unemployment across Kentucky. Woodford County recorded the state's lowest unemployment rate, while Martin County posted the highest. Wolfe and Lewis counties also ranked among those with the highest jobless rates.
Officials note the data is not seasonally adjusted, meaning short-term factors like weather shifts, school calendars and holiday hiring can significantly influence monthly changes.
While some areas continue to see modest improvements, the overall trend points to rising unemployment pressures in most of the state.
