Cane Run LG&E Generating Station post-demolition

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Saturday morning marked the end of a historic chapter for LG&E.

The coal-fired Cane Run Generating Station was demolished after 61 years of meeting Louisville's power demands.

The station stopped production when LG&E began running on natural gas in 2015.

Everything that fell during Saturday's demolition at 5252 Cane Run Road was processed and taken from the area for recycling.

"As we prepared for this day, our number one goal and focus has been ensuring Cane Run came down in a safe, controlled and environmentally-sound process," said Paul W. Thompson, LG&E and KU Chairman, CEO and President.
