LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An open house this week is urging you to open up your home to pets in need.
Louisville Metro Animal Services is inviting the community to an open house this Thursday, Sept. 26, from 3-8 p.m. at the Animal House Adoption Center on Newburg Road.
The event will allow potential pet fosters to learn how to help shelter pets by offering temporary homes.
"There are currently about 900 pets in our care right now," said Stephanie Jackson, with LMAS. "That's pets in the shelter and pets in the foster."
Attendees will hear from experienced fosters and learn how they can support the city's shelter.
LMAS will also offer a low-cost vaccine clinic with free microchips to Jefferson County residents this Saturday, Sept. 28, at The Jeffersonian on Taylorsville Road. Microchips are limited to the first 100 pets who arrive. Organizers said all pets must be on a leash or in a secured carrier.
