Tayshon Caudell on Background

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities have identified a 23-year-old man who was shot and killed by a gunman police say was on home incarceration.Ā

Late Wednesday afternoon, the Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the man as 23-year-old Carlos M. Catalan. He was pronounced dead just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at University Hospital. His cause of death has been identified as a single gunshot wound.

Louisville Metro Police made a quick arrest for the Tuesday night murder, likely because the alleged shooter was on home incarceration.

LMPD say officers arrested 18-year-old Tayshon Caudell, who told police that the shooting happened during a drug deal. An arrest report says Caudell was on HIP, and his GPS location placed him at the scene of the murder.

Police say Catalan was shot at about 6:30 p.m. near Poplar Level Road and East Indian Trail. He was then taken to University Hospital, where he died.

An arrest report says Caudell told police that he and another person tried to give Catalan counterfeit money to buy marijuana. A witness said the suspects pulled a gun and shot Catalan, as they tried to rob him.

Caudell is charged with murder, trafficking marijuana, robbery and tampering with evidence.Ā

Police say Caudell had been on HIP since November for another shooting.

On Wednesday, a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf, and bond was set at $1 million.Ā Ā

LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell says additional arrests are expected.Ā
