LMPD tow lot

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg announced a new partnership Tuesday to modernize the city's tow lot operations and speed up the removal of abandoned vehicles from streets across the city.

According to a statement from the mayor's office, the city is partnering with Vehicle Management Solutions to improve operations at LMPD's tow lot at 1487 Frankfort Ave. City leaders said the partnership will introduce new technology, streamlined logistics and updated vehicle management processes designed to reduce backlogs and improve service for residents.

The initiative is about more than efficiency, Greenberg said in the statement, noting the impact abandoned vehicles can have on safety and neighborhood pride.

"Clearing abandoned vehicles and modernizing our impound operations is about more than efficiency -- it’s about safety, quality of life, and pride in our neighborhoods," he said.

City officials believe the improvements will free up LMPD officers and 911 dispatchers so they can focus on higher-priority calls instead of managing impound-related issues.

According to the mayor's office, VMS will work closely with city leadership and union partners to help modernize operations using its national operational model and software systems. The changes are expected to improve inventory tracking, speed up vehicle processing, and provide clearer communication with residents picking up their vehicles from the lot.

City leaders say accelerating the removal of abandoned and derelict vehicles will help improve roadway safety, enhance neighborhoods and contribute to a cleaner urban environment across Louisville.
