LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The snow isn't going anywhere anytime soon and with Friday's additional, expected snow, the city of Louisville is asking for the public's help.

The city has used 30 million pounds of salt on the roads so far and crews are filling up their trucks with more salt.

It's prepping for Friday with an emergency snow contractor crews, which adds 12 people to clean up efforts.

Mayor Craig Greenberg is asking you to clear your private sidewalks and help your neighbors.

"We want you aware of snow routes that we are focused on," Greenberg said. "Those snow routes go back historically, most of the time because mother nature helps us out as well, we get some sun or warming. No one really focuses on why are roads on the snow route and why."

The city is prioritizing Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) bus routes and the Norton Health Sports and Learning Complex for a sporting event this weekend.

Greenberg also acknowledged people's frustration with their road and said the city will re-evaluate and make changes to its snow routes after this weekend.

His team is working to add east Louisville, English Station Road and south Louisville's Bluegrass Avenue to the city's snow routes for the future.

WDRB has also heard concerns about garbage pick-up throughout the city, especially at some apartment complexes.

The mayor said garbage was picked up Wednesday and Thursday, and is scheduled to be picked up on Friday.

TARC is staying on a reduced schedule through Sunday.

All Louisville Public Library locations will also remain open for shelter.

As you think about driving for the first-time since Sunday, clear the roof of your car to avoid injuring another driver with ice on the highway.

Preparing for overnight snowplows

If you live on a Metro Emergency Snow Route, it's asked you move your vehicles off the street, especially in one-way street neighborhoods, by midnight to prepare for snowplows.

The Snow Team is led by Public Works and uses 160 pieces of equipment to clear 1,362 miles of road in Louisville.

The snowplows are expected to hit streets overnight ahead of the snow that's coming in on Friday.
