LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB+WAVE) — Dave Scott nearly lost his life during a cardiac emergency. Now, he’s helping prepare the people who could save someone else’s.
Scott recently reunited with the Norton Heart and Vascular Institute team that treated him after a cardiac emergency left him needing ECMO, a form of life support used when the heart and lungs can no longer function on their own.
After surviving the medical emergency, Scott and his wife, Beth, wanted to give back.
The couple donated to the Norton Healthcare Foundation to help fund an ECMO simulator, giving caregivers a chance to practice handling complex emergencies before facing them with a patient.
"This is so meaningful. It’s personal. We’ve lived through it, and the gift of the ECMO simulator is just a perfect match, and we couldn’t be happier," Scott said.
