LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville celebrated Juneteenth on Friday with some local events.

MELANaire Marketplace held its sixth annual Ancestors Dream Juneteenth Festival at Fourth Street Live! in downtown Louisville.

The festival included several food trucks, more than 50 vendors and live performances.

The marketplace's mission is to "create, cultivate, collaborate and circulate wealth" within the Louisville community by empowering Black entrepreneurship. But on Friday, the focus was celebration.

"Celebrating Juneteenth is important because it shows people that this is real, this is meaningful to us and we're free, so why not celebrate that," vendor DeZiyer Ray said.
