LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville couple won $225,000 on the Kentucky Lottery Cash Ball 225 by using a personal set of numbers.

The couple, who has remained anonymous, matched all four white ball winning numbers and the Cash Ball from a ticket purchased at a gas station on Upper Hunters Trace in Louisville.

They had been playing Cash Ball 225 for a year and usually purchase three plays on their tickets. This includes their personal numbers and two lines of quick picks.

"What I loved about our win is the numbers that we won on were the numbers that I picked," the wife said in a news release. "His birthday, my birthday and our anniversary date."

The retired couple didn't realize they won the top prize until three days after the Aug. 22 drawing.

"We were just sitting around after the yard work, and I decided to get another cup of coffee and head up to my room where I keep the tickets," the wife said. "I checked our tickets and there it was."

The husband said his reaction was a little skeptical and wouldn't believe it until they got to the Lottery office.

"When we gave the person here at the Lottery our ticket and she scanned it for us and said 'Congratulations,' I said, 'hot dang we won!'" the husband said.

They were handed a check for $162,000 after taxes. The couple plans to use the winnings on home renovations and maybe a new car.
