LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Changes in weather and temperature swings can provide an early start to allergy season.

A Louisville doctor said transitions from 30 degrees to 70 degrees won't make a person sick, but it can cause flare ups for people who suffer from allergies or asthma migraines. Symptoms can be itchy eyes, congestion, headaches and post-nasal drip.

Dr. Joshua Brandon with Norton Community Medical Associates said distinguishing between allergies and a virus can be difficult during this time of year, but there are indicators that it's not just changing of the season.

"When we start to see like fevers, chills, severe fatigue, body aches, those kinds of things," Brandon said. "That's not necessarily going to be correlated as much with allergies."

Brandon said for most symptoms over-the-counter allergy medications or nasal sprays will work to treat the issues. He said if someone starts to feel worse, they should call their primary care physician.
