LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Earth Day is a few weeks away, but a celebration Saturday honored nature in Louisville.
The Mayor's Office of Sustainability held the city's first community-wide Earth Fest celebration event at Alberta O. Jones Park in the California neighborhood. It was in partnership with the Parks Alliance of Louisville.
"There is a lot of momentum in Louisville to take care of our environment," Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said in a news release. “Small steps lead to monumental change when we take them together, and that’s what Earth Fest is all about – learning how we can all work together to continue building a safer, stronger and healthier Louisville.”
The event featured food, music, sustainability talks, games and showcased volunteer activities and a tree give away.
"There is a tree giveaway, that is always really exciting," said Liz Levy. "We always hope that when people are going to plant trees they make sure they are the right tree for the right tree for the right spot and that they call 811 before they dig."
Evolve KY, Kentucky's nonprofit Electric Vehicle group Evolve, also attended the event to share information about the growth of EV's in the community.
Earth Fest also featured free food and a live cooking demonstration.
