LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- More than a 1,000 students put their best foot forward for a track meet like no other in the area.
The Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in the Russell neighborhood hosted the Louisville Indoor Games on Saturday. It's one of the largest high school invitation track meets in the country with more than 1,500 students participating from 11 states.
Competition includes sprints, hurdles, relays, pole vaulting and long jump. Although the venue is only four years old, it's already respected for track and field events.
"Coaches want their kids to run on this track because it has got a national reputation for being a very fast track and so far us it showcases some of the best of who Louisville is and what we are about," said Greg Fante, president and CEO of the Louisville Sports Commission.
Hundreds of Jefferson County Public Schools' middle school students will take to the track on Monday for additional track and field events.
In January, more than 2,000 track and field athletes competed in the Lenny Lyles Invitational.
