LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 4-year-old boy was hospitalized early Tuesday after an accidental shooting in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood.

Louisville Metro Police officers from the 3rd Division responded just after 8 a.m. to UofL Health — Medical Center Southwest on Stonestreet Road after the child was brought there with a gunshot wound, according to a news release from LMPD.

Investigators determined the shooting happened on Mango Court, which is in a neighborhood between Greenwood Road and West Pages Lane. Jacob Mosley, 23, the boy's father, was arrested Tuesday and charged with assault, criminal abuse of a child and wanton endangerment.

According to his arrest citation, Mosley told police he left the gun on the nightstand and, while he was in the shower, heard a pop. The child shot himself in the arm, police said.

The boy was taken to Norton Children's Hospital in downtown Louisville for further treatment, but his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, police said.
