LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville police detective known for her work protecting others was laid to rest Monday.
Michelle Rusch served with the Louisville Metro Police Department for more than a decade as member of the Crimes Against Children Unit. She died June 10 from stomach cancer.Â
A funeral service was held Monday at Southeast Christian Church, which was followed by a procession to Cave Hill Cemetery
"My mom was a detective, a protector, a fierce and faithful woman," Maya Rusch, her daughter, told the crowd during the funeral ceremony. "She didn't just serve her community. She transformed it. She stood for what was right even when it was hard. And more than that, she stood for people, for their safety and for their second chances."Â
According to Louisville Metro Police Foundation, Rusch was recognized by the Children's Advocacy Centers of Kentucky as as Legendary Partner of 2025. That honor was presented by Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman.
The Louisville Metro Police Foundation is encouraging people to donate to cover the cost of Rusch's burial and other expenses, and 100% of donations go to the family.
