LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville police officer was injured when her cruiser was broadsided by another vehicle Thursday night in Valley Station.

The crash happened around 8:20 p.m. at Dixie Highway and Stonestreet Road, according to a written statement from Louisville Metro Police. The officer was headed eastbound on Dixie Highway, with her lights and sirens on, approaching the intersection with Stonestreet Road.

Northbound and southbound traffic had stopped to allow the officer through the intersection, police said, but the driver of a northbound vehicle apparently didn't see the officer and crashed into the passenger side of the cruiser in what was described as a "t-bone type collision."

The officer's car then hit a utility pole, and she was trapped inside for a short time. She did manage to free herself before first responders arrived, and was taken to U of L Medical Center - Southwest for evaluation and treatment.

Police said "she is expected to be fine."

The driver of the other vehicle reported no injuries, and was evaluated by EMS on scene.

The Third Division is handling investigation.
