LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Republican members of Louisville Metro Council said a new push of public safety proposals is already showing early results, pointing to an ordinance aimed at tightening oversight of massage parlors as part of a broader effort to combat human trafficking.

The measure, which strengthens regulations and inspection requirements for certain establishments, is being highlighted by Council Republicans as a key step in identifying and preventing exploitation.

Councilman Jeff Hudson said enforcement tied to the ordinance is already underway, with the health department conducting multiple inspections since it took effect. He also said several arrests have been made in connection with the crackdown.

Hudson described the impact in strong terms, saying the effort has helped free women who were being exploited in trafficking situations. "A significant number of women who were trapped in human trafficking in Louisville are now free," he said.

Republican council members said the ordinance is part of a larger slate of proposals focused on improving public safety across the city. They add that they plan to continue building support for additional measures in the weeks ahead.

City officials have not yet released a full breakdown of enforcement outcomes tied specifically to the inspections and arrests.
