LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg announced that Louisville Tennis Center will reopen for the 2025 season in May.

Following the retirement of longtime pro Pete McGrath, who operated the center for more than two decades, Louisville Metro opted this year to manage the center, which is home to eleven courts and hosted pro tennis events in the 1970s and 80s.

The historic tennis center is located in Joe Creason Park, across from the Louisville Zoo.

"I want to thank Pete for his care and service in running the Louisville Tennis Center, where he developed a loyal following of patrons," Greenberg said in a written statement Monday. "While Pete is irreplaceable, I know the team at Louisville Parks and Recreation stands ready to meet the challenge of operating it this summer."

Officials from Louisville Parks and Recreation are working on an online reservation system that will be available at bestparksever.com in upcoming weeks. The exact opening date of the Louisville Tennis Center will depend on weather conditions, but officials are targeting early to mid-May for play to begin.

People interested in playing at the Louisville Tennis Center this summer should monitor bestparksever.com and Louisville Parks and Recreation on social media for updates on when the center will open.
