LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Valentine’s Day is often seen as a celebration of love—filled with cards, flowers, chocolates and romantic dinners. But for some, it’s also a day of suspicion.

While florists, candy shops, and restaurants see a spike in business, so do private investigators.

Angel Phillips and her husband were celebrating their relationship in an unconventional way—by considering matching tattoos.

"I like the idea of equality behind it," Phillips said. "Both partners get to share their time together and do something they love, to spark things up a little bit."

But while some are strengthening their bonds, others are wondering if their partner is truly committed. That’s where private investigator Dorian Bond comes in.

For the past 25 years, Bond has spent Valentine’s Day watching people who may be stepping outside their relationships. This year is no different.

"It's a 50/50 split," Bond said. "I've had about 10 phone calls today—five from women, five from men. Everybody thinks it's just the guy cheating, but you never know."

On this particular Friday afternoon, Bond is on a stakeout, sitting in a parking lot waiting for a man to leave a movie theater.

"I'm on surveillance right now, waiting for this guy to come out of the movies with his daughter—slash, daughter’s mother—who I call the Valentine," he explained. "It'll be interesting once the daughter goes to sleep. Does he go to a hotel, or does he stay there? That’s what I need to find out."

Over the years, Bond has identified common patterns of infidelity: taking phone calls in another room, hiding their phone, changing passwords, and becoming distant.

"If you've got a gut feeling something is happening, that's usually when you should hire a private investigator," he advised.

If the man he’s tracking goes somewhere he shouldn’t tonight, Bond will have pictures to prove it.

"He didn’t tell his wife that his ex was with them at the movies, the museum, and breakfast this morning. So it’s almost like they’re rekindling an old flame," he said.

Despite uncovering the truth, Bond doesn’t immediately share his findings with clients.

"A lot of clients ask, ‘Tell me where he’s at’ or ‘Tell me where she’s at.’ And I say no. Sometimes I’ll take the video of them cheating—hugging, kissing in parking lots—and I won’t send it until later that night," he said.

He explains that emotions can run high, and you never know how someone will react.

But for now, Cupid’s arrows are flying—though some may not land where they’re supposed to.

"Going to have to break some hearts tonight," Bond said.

And he’ll be the one breaking those arrows.
