LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was hit and killed by a train Thursday in the Watterson Park area of Louisville.

Louisville Metro Police said Sixth Division officers were called just before 3:30 p.m. to Bluegrass Park Drive. They were responding to a report of a man hit on the Norfolk Southern train tracks that run under Newburg Road near Hikes Lane.

EMS was called, but police said the man died at the scene.

LMPD said investigators spoke to the train conductor, who said the horn was sounded and they tried to stop the train before the man was hit.

The LMPD Homicide Unit is investigating.
