LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An 18-year-old arrested after opening fire at a Seymour library last week planned to shoot up a school, according to court documents.

Police said Emiliano Cuevas-Bravo fired a shot at Jackson County Public Library, injuring at least one person before he was taken into custody April 30 after he was tackled by a bystander in the southern Indiana library.

According to police, Cuevas-Bravo approached the entrance of the library, entered the building and fired one shot from a long gun through interior glass windows, in the direction of two employees who were working nearby. That sent shards flying, hitting an employee.

"He fired at least one shot from a long gun in kind of the lobby area of the library," ISP Sgt. Stephen Wheeles said. "One of the employees was possibly struck with some glass, sustained some non-life-threatening injuries (and) fortunately was not struck with any of the shots that were fired."

Wheeles said Cuevas-Bravo proceeded to the second floor of the library and placed the gun on the floor. That's when a person inside the library tackled the suspect and held him until police arrived and took him into custody.

According to court documents, Cuevas-Bravo told police he was feeling lonely, depressed and considered himself a failure. He also told investigators he had attempted suicide, and later developed an interest in the Columbine High School shooting in 1999.

Cuevas-Bravo told police he planned on doing a shooting at Seymour High School, where he is enrolled. He purchased a shotgun March 14, 2025.

According to court documents, Cuevas-Bravo planned the shooting for April 30 -- the day of Adolf Hitler's death. His only specific target was the School Resource Officer, who he planned to shoot first, according to court documents.

Cuevas-Bravo told police he planned to shoot the school resource officer and then kill random students at the school. After driving to the school with a pipe bomb, he told police he parked outside the building, but changed his target when he saw a teacher he liked, according to court documents.

That's when Cuevas-Bravo drove to the Jackson County Library where he told police he planned to shoot people there and then kill himself.

Cuevas-Bravo was arrested on preliminary charges, including two counts of attempted murder, one count of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and one count of intimidation. On May 7, a Jackson Circuit Court judge in Brownstown ordered him held without bond.

Cuevas-Bravo is scheduled to be back in court June 16. A tentative trial date is set for Oct. 21.
