LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was struck and killed early Tuesday morning trying to cross the intersection at Newburg Road and Bishop Lane. 

Louisville Metro Police said in a release that officers were called to the intersection about 4:30 a.m. That's when they found the man who had been hit. EMS was called but the man died at the scene. 

An initial investigation shows the man was wearing dark clothing and trying to cross the roadway without using the crosswalk. 

The driver stopped, called for help and stayed on the scene. 

LMPD's Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.
