LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man is dead after he was struck and killed on Interstate 64 West early Friday as he was running from the scene of a crash in the eastbound lanes.
According to a news release from Louisville Metro Police, around 2:06 a.m. officers responded to a report of a crash on I-64E at the junction with I-65. While at the scene, officers were told the driver of a Hyundai Santa Fe rear-ended a Land Rover at a high rate of speed.
Police said the driver of the Hyundai ran from the vehicle after the crash. That's when he was "subsequently struck by a passing motorist" in the westbound lanes of I-64.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released. The driver of the vehicle on I-64W that hit the man remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. No charges are expected.
The driver of the Land Rover was uninjured, according to the release.
LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating.
