LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man is dead after he was struck and killed on Interstate 64 West early Friday as he was running from the scene of a crash in the eastbound lanes.Â
According to a news release from Louisville Metro Police, around 2:06 a.m. officers responded to a report of a crash on I-64E at the junction with I-65. While at the scene, officers were told the driver of a Hyundai Santa Fe rear-ended a Land Rover at a high rate of speed.
Police said the driver of the Hyundai ran from the vehicle after the crash. That's when he was "subsequently struck by a passing motorist" in the westbound lanes of I-64.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released. The driver of the vehicle on I-64W that hit the man remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. No charges are expected. Â
The driver of the Land Rover was uninjured, according to the release.Â
