LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WAVE) — Officials in Meade County are celebrating a multimillion-dollar investment in their water systems.
A groundbreaking was held Wednesday morning to celebrate the more than $2 million in funding to support infrastructure upgrades within the Meade County Water District.
Officials said a new transmission main, an interconnect tank and pump station will help provide a more reliable and consistent supply of water to more than 5,000 rural customers in the county.
Federal, state and local governments have been working together on the project for about three years. The first phase costs $8 million. County leaders said the project will help move them into the future.
"You know, it's one thing to have a problem but it's another thing to have a solution," Meade County Judge Executive Troy Kok said. "And what this project has brought us and will bring us is resiliency to our water system."
Over the past six years, the Kentucky government has contributed nearly $15 million to Made County to make sure people who live there have access to clean water.
