LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jury selection is set to start next week in the trial for the man accused of killing two girls in Delphi, Indiana, Fox59 reported this week.
Richard Allen, 51, is charged with the murders of Abby Williams, 13, and Libby German, 14, near the Monon High Bridge in 2017.
The jury selection will begin next week in Fort Wayne. But once the jury is picked, the trial will move to Carroll County, where the crimes happened.
Allen was arrested more than five years after the killings. His attorneys said someone else killed the girls and outlined their theory that a group of Odinists, a pagan Nordic religion, co-opted by white supremacists was responsible.
But Judge Fran Gull, assigned to the case by the Indiana Supreme Court, ruled last month to keep Allen's defense team from presenting its alternative theory about the murders.
The case made national headlines, so police are preparing. They will block off a courthouse entrance and side street, and there will only be two-hour parking on the street.
Ann Hughes, who owns a business in Carroll County, said they'll be busier than normal in the small community.
"I think they're doing a great job prepping for it," Hughes said. "We want closure for their family, and, in that way, the whole town can start to heal. Because it's a wonderful place to live."
The special judge in the case said she'll run her courtroom six days a week once testimony begins.
