MADISON, Ind. (WDRB) --Â An untouched, burned home reminds neighbors of the family who used to live inside.
It’s been more than three and a half months since the southern Indiana home burned down. You can still see the melted siding, a burned minivan, and a sign, saying the family will always be remembered.
On a windy, busy backroad in Madison, Indiana, neighbors said they never thought police would respond to the home for a triple-murder suicide.
"This was tragic what happened. And we couldn't understand why the road was blocked off," Joe Fetter, who lives on the other side of Telegraph Hill Road, said.
On Dec. 12, 2023, fire crews got to his neighbors' burning house and found 35-year-old Naomi Briner and her three children: Iyla, Leland, and Adelia, ages 6, 8 and 12 dead inside.
"It's still a mess down there, that's still a constant remind that something terrible happened," Fetter said.
The Jefferson County Indiana prosecutor said Briner shot her three children, before turning the gun on herself.
"It's a tragedy that anyone would die under those circumstances, especially young girls, kids that are innocent bystanders," Fetter said.
Neighbors told WDRB that Briner was a nurse and the kids were very energetic. They belonged to a church in Madison. Briner grew up in Jefferson County, Indiana.
"My daughter knew of them. I think one of them was in Girl Scouts. I'm not sure, it's terrible. I've heard rumors. Something wasn't right between the parents that too bad that kids had to be involved," Fetter said.
The home remains untouched with Christmas decorations, a car seat, and baseballs in the yard.
"There's always a way to deal with something. Besides that's, that's a drastic way. It's not God's will," Fetter said.
One woman down the street, who didn’t feel comfortable going on camera, said had Briner asked “anyone in a one mile radius to take her kids in," someone would have.
