LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Three children found dead in a burning Madison, Indiana, home in December were shot by their mother, who was also found dead in the fire, investigators said Friday.

According to Indiana State Police,Ā Naomi Briner, 35, Adelia Briner, 12, Leland Briner, 8, and Iyla Briner, 6, were all found dead Dec. 12, 2023, at the home on East Telegraph Road. Police have said previously that all four had been shot.Ā

In an update to the case on Friday, ISP said the Jefferson County (Indiana) Coroner's Office ruled the manner of death for the three children to be homicide and that the gunshot wounds were "contributing factors in their deaths." Police said Briner died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In releasing his findings from the case Friday, Jefferson County Prosecutor David Sutter said Briner was responsible for the deaths of the three children and herself.

"This was a tragic case that has been heartbreaking for the community and all who have been involved in this investigation," Sutter said in a news release. "My heart goes out to the involved families for the tragedy that they have endured. I commend the Indiana State Police detectives and the other agencies that have assisted in this case."

Sutter said he would not request investigators to pursue "any additional leads" in the case.
