LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Strong winds over the weekend left behind a dangerous mess in Louisville.

A dead tree in Delores Neal’s yard was ripped from the ground during Saturday night’s wind gusts and is now leaning toward her home. Neal, who is 85 and widowed, said she didn’t realize how bad the damage was until daylight.

“I didn’t know the tree had fallen until I got up this morning and it was a shock, let me tell ya," Neal said. "I’m glad it didn’t hit the house, I’m thankful for that.”

The tree is only a short distance from her roof and appears to be leaning more each day, raising concerns it could slide or fall onto her home if another round of strong wind moves through.

But Neal won’t have to tackle it alone. Neighbors and friends have already volunteered to cut down and remove the tree before it shifts any further. She said their support makes all the difference.
