NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- New Albany's new River Run Family Water Park is set to open on June 26.
The new $8 million dollar water park has been under construction for months on the former site of a public pool, which New Albany has been without for years.
The Camille Wright Pool on Daisy Lane was closed nearly 10 years ago and has sat vacant ever since. The revitalization project is part of a nearly $20 million bond that includes several park projects, and is focused on redeveloping or improving New Albany's parks and recreation areas.
Construction should soon be wrapping up.
"We had a pretty tough winter. A lot of rain in April and May, but I'm really pleased with where they are today," said Mayor Jeff Gahan.
River Run Family Water Park will feature water slides, a lazy river, a steamboat splash park feature, a kiddie pool, a lap pool and a deck for sun bathing.
Those living nearby, like Edna Carney, are ready for construction to end.
"They start at a quarter til 7 and work til dark everyday," Edna Carney said.
Neighbors tell us they've been dealing with dust and dirt from the construction for the past year.
With big crowds expected at the waterpark, neighbor Karen Lone says she's concerned with traffic.
"Everybody's concerned about the parking and being blocked in on our street and stuff like that," said Karen Lone.
She does admit though that the waterpark could help the city.
"I'm sure it's gonna boost the economy down here, which we do need that more than anything," Lone said.
Mayor Gahan says it's one of several improvements they've made to bring more people to New Albany.
"We've also completed the sports complex over on Silver Street, we've redone Main Street so we've had a lot of public investment here recently to get New Albany back in the running to be a top place to live in the Metro area," said Mayor Gahan.
As for Edna Carney, she's ready for construction to wrap up so she can stop by.
"I've got to go see what it looks like," Carney said.
Season passes and family passes for River Run Family Waterpark are available at Silver Street Park. Anyone who purchases a Season Pass or Family Pass before July 1 will receive 50 percent off a 2016 season pass.
Floyd County residents will pay only $7 for a day pass and $65 for the year. A yearly family pass will cost $225. Residents of Clark and Harrison Counties will be charged $8 per day to use the park, while other Indiana residents will pay $10.
Non-Indiana residents will be charged $15 per day.
