LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Emergency crews in southern Indiana will soon have a new place to work, train and recharge.
Norton Healthcare broke ground on a new EMS transport hub in Madison that will replace its aging downtown facility at the King's Daughters Health campus.
The 10,000-square-foot hub is expected to give EMS workers more room and updated facilities, including dedicated space where they can decompress between calls.
Norton officials also hope the new building will make it easier to recruit and keep emergency medical technicians and paramedics.
"It should help us recruit, help us retain, give some private area so they can decompress," an official said. The facility also will provide a more efficient space for training.
Construction is underway, with the new EMS hub expected to open next fall.
Norton is also fundraising for a new radio telecommunications system to support its EMS operations.
