LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville high school students are getting the opportunity to work with the city.

Youth Ambassadors Leading Louisville, also known as Y'ALL, is giving students a chance to become leaders in the community.

Thirty-three schools are being represented by high school juniors at the top of their classes who will volunteer to work with the city for events like Worldfest and the Veterans Day parade.

The program kicked off Thursday, where the students met one another and played some games. Some of them said they're excited to get started.

"We're being put in a position where we're constantly having to lead people around us, but I also just want to learn how to connect with other people better," Christian Academy junior Tia Satele said. "I haven't grown up in the greater Louisville area, but I definitely think like, being in high school like she said, you kind of get used to seeing the same people over and over again, so I think it'd be great to just be able to go branch out and see more people and meet people."

The mayor's Hike, Bike and Paddle on Memorial Day is the first event the group can participate in.
