LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — No one was hurt after a fire broke out at a multi-use commercial property in Louisville early Thursday morning.
Louisville Fire Department Spokesperson Donovan Sims said crews arrived to the 5300 block of South 3rd Street about 4:17 a.m. Thursday and saw heavy smoke coming from the building.
Sims said additional crews were called to the scene due to the conditions. In total, 24 firefighters were working the fire.
Fire crews, battling heavy smoke conditions, located the fire in the attic above the mechanical room, where it was contained. The fire was under control at about 5:50 a.m.
LG&E secured the gas and electric to the building as a precaution, and an inspector with the health department was called due to the heavy smoke conditions affecting an adjoining restaurant and grocery.
No one was inside the building, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation with help from Louisville Fire Arson.
