LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A fuel leak caused the northbound lanes of Interstate 71 in Louisville to be closed for several hours on Monday evening.
All lanes were blocked just past Interstate 264 in Louisville after a vehicle caught fire around 6:38 p.m., according to TRIMARC. The left lane reopened to traffic around 8:30 p.m.Â
The lanes were expected to be closed for two to three hours. Drivers were encouraged to seek an alternate route.Â
Anchorage Middleton Fire and EMS spokesperson Jordan Yuodis said semi cab fire and fuel leak involved around 100 gallons of diesel. The tractor-trailer hit an object on the road, which caused it to start smoking.
Yuodis said the vehicle was carrying Cool Ranch Doritos, but the trailer was not involved in the incident.
The diesel leak was estimated to be around 75 to 100 gallons, but it has been contained within a 100 to 150 foot stretch of the ditch line, according to Yuodis.
Health officials and MSD representatives are on scene of the incident.
