LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials gave an inside look at the newly-renovated Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center Thursday afternoon.
Crews replaced nearly three decades worth of tile at the Crescent Hill facility. Leaders said the new tile is one-inch, and should be less slippery for visitors.
The pool closed in late May and reopened earlier this week. So far, the reviews have been positive.
"Everybody is loving it, they are happy to be back," Keith Smith, with Louisville Parks and Recreation, said. "Everyone is back to swimming because they didn't have nowhere to swim all summer."
The nearly $500,000 project also includes updates to the weight room and a fresh coat of paint to brighten the center's exterior.
To celebrate the grand reopening, there will be a free pool party next weekend.
Councilman Andrew Owen, D-9, and Louisville Parks and Recreation will host the event Saturday, Sept. 13, from 12-3 p.m.
The celebration will include open swimming for all ages, complementary pizza and refreshments, as well as music.
Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
