LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thursday marked the 43rd anniversary of the deadliest fire in Kentucky history.

Hundreds of people were inside the Beverly Hills Supper Club in Southgate, just north of Cincinnati, when it caught fire the night of May 28, 1977. The flames spread quickly and killed 165 people.

Nearly 2,600 escaped.

Investigators never determined exactly what caused the fire, but it led to significant changes to building and fire codes.
